New Delhi, March 9: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils (DD) have a new co-owner as JSW Sports Private Limited (JSPL) will now hold 50 percent stake in the GMR Sports Private Limited (GSPL), owned by the Promoters of the GMR Group.
The official announcement of the merger was made on Friday (March 9), however, the sale is subject to approval from BCCI and satisfaction of other customary conditions precedent.
'Powerful synergy':
Speaking about this venture, GMR Corporate chairman Grandhi Kiran Kumar said," This relationship between GMR and JSW opens up powerful synergy going forward for both the groups. It is symbolic of immense potential for sports and cricket in particular in the region. After having nurtured the franchise for the last 10 years, we believe the time is right for us to take it to newer heights. We believe JSW as a partner will bring significant value to the Franchise with their wealth of diverse experience."
Managing Director of JSW Parth Jindal also expressed his happiness over the venture and said he too is very excited about Delhi Daredevils making it to their existing sports portfolio.
"We are very happy to announce this new partnership with GMR. This is something that we as a group are excited about and the DD team will add to our existing portfolio of sports investments. We look forward to bring our experience and expertise to take the team to new heights," said Jindal.
JSW sponsors Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Bengaluru FC and its logo would now be present on the DD jersey.
The DD franchise was founded in 2008, ahead of the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League.
Delhi Daredevils will be led by veteran India cricketer Gautam Gambhir this year. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the coach of the franchise for the upcoming season.
