The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 began on Friday (March 31) amid much fanfare at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on four-time winners Chennai Super Kings.

Like every season, IPL 2023 will keep on witnessing its share of many firsts as the players will be aiming to do well in the tournament which is watched all over the world. Interestingly, the IPL Season 16 is going to have a fair share of innovations.

The introduction of the 'Impact Player' rule is one of the firsts in the IPL 2023. It will be interesting to see how the teams are going to make use of this new rule and whether it will be a blessing or a boon for the franchises.

The opening match of the IPL 2023 is being played at the Motera - which has been revamped and rechristened as the Narendra Modi Stadium. The iconic venue is now the largest cricket stadium in the world in terms of seating capacity.

A total of 1 lakh and 10 thousand people can be accommodated at this ground, which hosted the IPL 2022 Final between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. The Titans won the game quite convincingly and lifted their first-ever IPL title.
