Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir deserve suspension after ugly spat: Sunil Gavaskar

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir's ugly altercation is still quite vivid in our memories. Two former India teammates colliding on the field in that manner was sore to the eye.

Since the incident, various Experts have opined on the heated spat between the pair, and all have so far unanimously condemned the utter unprofessional behaviour of the duo. And now former India player Sunil Gavaskar says both Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir must face suspension after the incident.

Both players were fined 100 per cent of their match fee, but Gavaskar reckons the monetary punishment is not the solution as players don't care for that.

"Looking at what happened after the match between Lucknow and RCB at Chinnaswamy, it was expected that something similar might happen if RCB wins in Lucknow. But I think what happened is not good for anyone," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

"You get 100 per cent fine but what difference does it make to today's players. You will remember the story of Harbhajan and Sreesanth. Both were suspended. Something similar should have happened here. Money does not bother any player, but when suspension comes and it affects the performance of the team, then such incidents will not happen again," he added.

If the suspension is imposed, Kohli will miss some of RCB's games, while Gambhir, who works as a mentor of LSG, may well be banished from the dug-out for a number of matches, as per the extent of the suspension.

Another former India player Mohammed Kaif says the players must be regretting their act now and condemned the incident which took place at the Ekana Stadium.

"Virat and Gambhir must be expressing deep regret for what happened on and off the field. There is tension inside the field but what happened outside the field should not have happened in true sense," Kaif said on the same show.

It has not been a new incident between the two Delhi boys as they had collided in the past as well. But given those things happened a decade ago, a bit more cam approach and maturity was expected from both of them.
