Star India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on Wednesday (April 5) claimed another major milestone in his successful IPL career during a league match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in IPL 2023.
In match number eight of the sixteenth edition of the tournament, Chahal surpassed former Sri Lanka cricketer and IPL great Lasith Malinga to become the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament's history.

Chahal - who was the Purple Cap winner of the previous IPL season - went for runs in his first over against PBKS at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati as the opposition got off to a terrific start after being put in to bat first.
The Haryana leg-spinner dismissed Punjab Kings' wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma in his final over of the match to leapfrog Malinga to become the second leading wicket-taker in the tournament's history.
Chahal now has 171* wickets in 133 IPL matches while Malinga - who played for Mumbai Indians in his entire IPL career - had 170 wickets in 122 games in the premier domestic tournament. Interestingly, Malinga is the bowling coach of Chahal's IPL side RR.
Chahal - who has played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past - has been a man on a mission with his consistent performances in the tournament. Now, he's only behind West Indies' legendary all-rounder Dwayne Bravo - who has 183 wickets in 161 IPL games.
The wrist-spinner - who didn't have a memorable outing against Punjab Kings as he leaked 50 runs from his quota of four overs - got a consolation win with the solitary wicket. In the match against RR, Punjab Kings posted a massive 197/4 in 20 overs.
In his previous IPL 2023 match, which RR won against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chahal added another feather to his illustrious cap. The right-arm leg-spinner became the first Indian bowler to pick up 300 T20 wickets.
