Following a series of setbacks in his initial matches of the IPL 2024 season, star Rajasthan Royals opener, Jos Buttler made a significant impact by slamming a match-winning unbeaten century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday (April 6).
Buttler, known for his aggressive batting style, marked his 100th IPL appearance by overcoming the disappointments of his previous three innings to achieve his sixth IPL century, thereby matching Chris Gayle's record of six centuries in the tournament. It is also Buttler's maiden IPL ton at RR's home ground i.e. Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Buttler's match-winning century eclipsed RCB's star opener Virat Kohli's innings of 113 runs off 73 balls earlier in the game. Kohli's remarkable performance saw him establish a record by hitting his eighth century in the IPL, the highest number achieved by any batsman in the history of the competition.
In a thrilling finish to the match against RCB, the 34-year-old batter, smashed a six to reach the milestone of his first century of the season in his landmark game. With just one run needed for Rajasthan Royals victory and six required to complete his ton, Buttler finished off in style and slammed his century.
During the chase of 183 runs against RCB, Buttler - England's white-ball captain - demonstrated remarkable resilience, carrying his bat through the innings to finish unbeaten on 100 off 58 balls, striking at an impressive rate of 172.41. His innings featured nine boundaries and four maximums.
Buttler secured his maiden IPL century during the 2021 edition with a blistering knock of 124 runs off 64 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It is still his highest score in his IPL career.
In the subsequent IPL season, he dominated the tournament with four centuries, beginning with a century against Mumbai, followed by knocks of 103 runs off 61 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders, and 116 runs off 65 balls against Delhi Capitals. His fourth century of IPL 2024 came against RCB, where he scored an unbeaten 106 runs off 60 deliveries in Ahmedabad.
In the IPL 2022 season, Buttler amassed a total of 863 runs in 17 games. However, IPL 2023 saw a dip in his performance, with a total of 392 runs and a highest score of 95 runs off 59 balls, achieved against SRH. Scoring a century in his fourth match of the IPL 2024 season, the right-handed batsman has delivered a clear message to his adversaries.
Buttler's remarkable performance against RCB indicates a resurgence in his form, suggesting that he will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming matches. Opposing teams should be wary, as Buttler's appetite for runs doesn't end with just one century.
