IPL 2024: Sanju Samson is having one of his most consistent IPL seasons and one can see the hunger in his eyes. The Rajasthan Royals captain has led his team beautifully in the season so far. Rajasthan, who won the inaugural edition in 2008, are leading the points table with six wins in seven matches, and Samson has been at the centre of this stellar run.

The 29-year-old has often started his IPL campaigns on a high note but lacked on the consistency part. Samson once again hit a fifty to get his IPL 2024 campaign rolling. However, the performance hasn't faded this time.

After the halfway mark in IPL 2024, Sanju Samson is the third-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2024. He has scored 276 runs in seven matches at an average of 55.20. He has already hit three fifties - the joint-highest he has ever in his 12-year IPL career.

When asked about the different fire in the eyes of Sanju Samson, former India Women captain Anjum Chopra reckoned that the rise of other wicketkeeper-batters could be one major reason. She said everyone has pipped him in the pecking order, and being consistent was the only way to keep himself in the reckoning.

"The franchise has invested in him as a captain since the last 3-4 years, and they are looking at him as a future and present leader. He is a young guy and so he can lead for a number of years. Rajasthan have invested in him. There is an India cap as well at the back of it. Everyone has pipped him in the pecking order," Anjum Chopra told MyKhel.com while talking about a gritty show from Sanju Samson in IPL 2024.

Anjum Chopra backs Sanju Samson for T20 World Cup 2024 spot

The 46-year-old backed Sanju Samson to be part of the India squad for T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, Samson did not find a place in the India squad for home World Cup last year as Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were picked ahead of him.

"He has been given a few chances but he hasn't grabbed them, or he hasn't been given those many chances, probably someone else might have been offered. Biggest prized cap is the Indian cap, and consistency would be needed to be in the reckoning. That is also an important factor for his gritty consistent run this season. I feel he should be definitely in the reckoning for a T20 World Cup spot," Anjum Chopra added.

Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel are few of the other wicketkeeper-batters looking to board the flight to the USA and the West Indies for the T20 World Cup 2024. Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Dinesh Karthik has also come out all guns blazing in the IPL 2024, and could have the outside chance of getting in the team for the ICC showpiece event.
