KL Rahul (GT) might not have been on the top of his game, but his innings have played a key role in setting the tone for his team who are placed third on the 10-team table after 23 IPL 2024 matches. In this article, let's have a look at three IPL 2024 captains who have let down their side completely with their poor performance.

IPL 2024: Three captains who have disappointed most

Shikhar Dhawan: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain has scored 152 runs in five matches at an average of 30.40. However, he has crossed the 25-run mark only twice this season. His scores in the last two matches are 14 and 1 respectively.

Dhawan's highest score this season is 70 off 50, but Punjab ended up losing the game by 21 runs. His second best score of 45 off 37 (vs RCB) also came in a losing cause.

The 38-year-old has a strike rate of 125.61 which hasn't helped the team. The experienced campaigner has failed to give his team good starts, and lead by example.

Shreyas Iyer: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain is also having a forgettable season. He has managed to score 91 runs in four matches at an average of 30.33 and a strike rate of 131.88.

The 29-year-old opened up his campaign with a duck. The right-hander scored 18 off 11 against Delhi Capitals. Shreyas Iyer struggled massively against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in his last outing, managing to score just 34 off 32. His was the eighth wicket to fall, but 137/9 is all that KKR could manage.

Faf du Plessis: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis is having an off season. The South African 39-year-old has scored just 109 runs at an average of 21.80 and a strike rate of 132.92.

He was the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2023. He scored 730 runs at an average of 56.15 and a strike rate of 153.68. In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, he has crossed the 20-run mark just two out of five times. As a result, RCB have failed to get off to a good start and lost four of their first five matches.
