Faf du Plessis IPL Profile

Francois du Plessis, popularly known as Faf du Plessis, is a South African professional cricketer and former captain of the South Africa national cricket team. He was born on 13 July 1984 at Pretoria in South Africa. He is a right-handed batsman and a right arm leg break bowler. 

A gifted cricketer with astute technical abilities, he is considered as one of the best all-format batters of his era as well as one of the best fielders of all time. In 2015, Du Plessis became the first South African cricketer to score centuries in all forms of the game.

Du Plessis is contracted to Royal Challengers Bangalore at the time of IPL 2023 having been signed by the Bangalore based franchise in IPL 2022 auctions for a figure of Rs 7 crore. He was also named as the new RCB skipper in 2022 taking over from Virat Kohli. The South African great formerly played for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL.

He has also played country cricket in England and franchise leagues across the world such as the Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, South African Mzansi Super League, Pakistan Super League, Bangladesh Premier League for various teams over the years. 

Unlike his college friend and former teammate AB de Villiers, Du Plessis was somewhat a late bloomer and got his break in the South Africa side in his mid twenties. He made his ODI debut on 18 January 2011 against India and made unbeaten 60 runs and never looked back since. He made his Test debut in November 2012, becoming the fourth South African to score a Test century on debut.

After making his T20 debut in September 2012, he was subsequently also named T20 captain of South Africa for the following Twenty20 series against New Zealand and confirmed full-time skipper in February 2013. 

He  took over the Test captaincy in December 2016 and assumed full-time captaincy in all formats of the game in August 2017 after teammate and former captain AB de Villiers relinquished the two limited overs captaincies.
