IPL 2026: SRH Pull Off Record 229-Run Chase against RR as Kishan, Abhishek Overshadow Sooryavanshi’s 36-Ball Ton

Jaipur, April 25: Sunrisers Hyderabad produced one of the most stunning chases in IPL history, hunting down a daunting target of 229 with remarkable ease to defeat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in Match number 36 on Saturday (April 25).

The chase, completed with nine balls to spare, not only became the highest successful run-chase at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, but also overshadowed a sensational 36-ball century from teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

IPL 2026 SRH Pull Off Record 229-Run Chase as Kishan Abhishek Overshadow Sooryavanshi s 36-Ball Ton

In a match that had everything - records, power-hitting and momentum swings - it was SRH's fearless batting that ultimately stole the show.

Sooryavanshi's Historic Knock Lights Up Jaipur

Rajasthan Royals, after being put in to bat, looked set for a record-breaking total thanks to a breathtaking innings from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The youngster once again proved why he is being hailed as a generational talent, smashing 103 off just 37 balls, an innings packed with five fours and an astonishing 12 sixes.

Sooryavanshi reached his fifty in just 15 balls - one of the fastest of the season - before accelerating further to bring up his century in only 36 deliveries, making it the third-fastest century in IPL history. His fearless assault dismantled the SRH bowling attack, particularly targeting Sakib Hussain and Praful Hinge.

He found solid support in Dhruv Jurel, who played a composed knock of 51 off 35 balls. The duo added 112 runs for the second wicket, putting Rajasthan firmly in control.

SRH Pull Things Back at the Death

Despite the carnage, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to claw their way back into the contest in the final overs. Captain Pat Cummins stood out with an exceptional spell of 1/27, using clever variations to contain the damage. Eshan Malinga chipped in with two wickets, while Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed the well-set Jurel at a crucial stage.
Although Donovan Ferreira provided a late flourish with 33 off 16 balls, Rajasthan Royals finished on 228/6, a total that felt slightly below par considering their explosive start.

Kishan and Abhishek Lead a Stunning Chase

Chasing 229 - the fourth-highest successful chase in IPL history - SRH needed a flying start. They lost Travis Head early, but what followed was a breathtaking counterattack led by Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma.

Kishan took charge from the outset, smashing 74 off 31 balls, while Abhishek complemented him perfectly with a blistering 57 off 29 balls. The pair stitched together a match-defining 132-run partnership, completely neutralising the pressure of the steep target.

Their aggressive approach ensured that the required run rate never spiralled out of control, leaving Rajasthan Royals scrambling for answers.

Royals Falter Despite Late Fightback

Rajasthan Royals attempted a comeback through Brijesh Sharma, who picked up two quick wickets, including Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Jofra Archer also struck twice to keep faint hopes alive.

However, sloppy fielding, including crucial dropped chances, proved costly as SRH maintained control. With the target well within reach, Aniket Verma sealed the victory in style with a towering six, completing the chase in just 18.3 overs.

What This Result Means

The win marks SRH's third victory in their last four matches, propelling them to third place in the IPL 2026 standings. It also continues their dominance over Rajasthan Royals this season, having now beaten them twice.

For Rajasthan, the defeat raises concerns. After a strong start to the campaign, they have now slipped, winning just one of their last four matches. Issues in death bowling and fielding continue to haunt them, despite individual brilliance like Sooryavanshi's century.

While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's explosive century will be remembered as one of the standout innings of IPL 2026, it was ultimately overshadowed by a team effort of the highest order from Sunrisers Hyderabad. In a match where records tumbled on both sides, SRH's fearless chase proved that no total is safe in modern T20 cricket.
