IPL 2026: Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest Batter to Complete 14000 T20 Runs During RCB vs KKR Clash
Talismanic India cricketer Virat Kohli added yet another feather to his illustrious T20 career during the IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur on Wednesday (May 13), becoming the fastest batter in history to complete 14,000 T20 runs.
Kohli reached the landmark in just 409 innings, breaking the previous record held by Chris Gayle, who had taken 423 innings to get there.

The record once again highlighted Kohli's remarkable consistency across formats and conditions over nearly two decades of T20 cricket.

Kohli Responds After Back-to-Back Ducks
After arriving at the match following back-to-back ducks - a rare occurrence in his IPL career - Kohli responded with the kind of innings that has defined his greatness across formats for over a decade.
He began cautiously before gradually taking complete control of the chase with his trademark precision, placement and acceleration. Once settled, Kohli shifted gears seamlessly and brought up his half-century off just 32 deliveries.
But unlike several recent knocks where he had fallen after reaching fifty, this time Kohli carried on relentlessly.
Kohli Slams 9th IPL Century
The former RCB captain converted the innings into his record-extending ninth IPL century and did so in classic chase-master fashion, reaching the landmark off just 58 balls.
The hundred was also Kohli's third IPL century while batting second and his second against Kolkata Knight Riders, further strengthening his extraordinary record against the franchise.
His last five IPL scores against KKR now read 54, 83 not out, 18, 59 not out and now another century - a remarkable sequence against one of the tournament's strongest bowling attacks. More importantly, the innings once again demonstrated Kohli's unmatched mastery in run chases.
While T20 cricket increasingly revolves around explosive cameos and ultra-aggressive batting from ball one, Kohli continues to dominate through calculated acceleration, elite game awareness and the ability to absorb pressure during big chases better than almost anyone in cricket history.
The Raipur innings carried every trademark element associated with peak Kohli - controlled aggression early on, ruthless punishment against loose deliveries and complete domination once the target came within reach.
And after briefly enduring one of the rare lean phases of his IPL journey, Kohli produced the perfect response with yet another century that combined milestone, statement and match-winning impact in a single innings. He remained unbeaten on 105 off 60 balls (11 fours and 3 sixes).
Another Historic Milestone in an Extraordinary Career
Kohli's journey to 14,000 T20 runs has been built not merely on longevity but on sustained excellence.
Unlike many power-hitters in franchise cricket, Kohli's record stands out because of his ability to combine: consistency, adaptability, chase mastery, and elite fitness across eras of T20 cricket.
While several modern T20 stars rely primarily on explosive cameos, Kohli's greatness has come through maintaining high averages alongside strong strike rates year after year.
The 14,000-run milestone and record-extending ninth ton further strengthen his position among the greatest T20 batters the format has ever seen.
And after silencing concerns following consecutive ducks, Kohli once again reminded everyone why counting him out rarely ends well.
