IPL Auction 2025: Four Players CSK may target for RTM Card at Mega Auction

By MyKhel Staff

Chennai Super Kings are looking to form a strong squad ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 season.

The Super Kings, the five-time IPL champions, retained five players from the previous season and will head into the auction with a purse of Rs 55 crore.

CSK may target for RTM Card

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube and Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana were the capped retentions for CSK, while former India captain MS Dhoni has also been retained as an uncapped player.

As CSK has retained five players, they shall have one Right to Match (RTM) card in the mega auction. The new cycle of the IPL will commence with the mega auction, which will be taking place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.

Chennai Super Kings Released Players

Ajay Mandal, Ajinkya Rahane, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Maheesh Theekshana, Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, Mukesh Choudhary, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Shaik Rasheed, Simarjeet Singh, Tushar Deshpande, Rachin Ravindra, Shardul Thakur, Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi, Mustafizur Rahman, Avanish Rao Aravelly.

In the IPL 2025 auction, the team winning the bid in the auction will have another chance to up the bid even if the old franchise matches their bid. The former team can only get their player back if they match the upped bid of the current holder as well.

Chennai Super Kings released a lot of big names ahead of the mega auction. The Chennai franchise will have one RTM card and they can bring back one of their former players by matching the bid of another team in the auction. Here are Five names who may be looked as the RTM option by the CSK management-

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar's injury-prone IPL 2024 season saw him making just eight appearances for CSK, picking up 5 wickets. The 32-year-old India pacer has been underwhelming since his Rs 14 crore signing in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He recently wished for CSK to bid for him, but it is unlikely that the Super Kings will break the bank for him. But if the India pacer is sold cheap, they may look to exercise the option.

Devon Conway

Devon Conway had a fantastic IPL 2023 with Chennai Super Kings where he scored 672 runs as CSK won their fifth IPL title. The New Zealand batter was ruled out last season with an injury. But he is someone whom CSK may target to bring back for the next cycle. Conway and Gaikwad's partnership up top was a massive success for the Super Kings, and they may eye to re-sign him through the RTM card.

Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman was excellent for CSK in the IPL 2024. The left-arm pacer played just 9 matches and picked up 14 wickets, often being the source of a wicket for the team. Known as the 'Fizz', Mustafizur may extend his stay in the IPL with CSK if the franchise uses the RTM on him. The Super Kings have already retained Matheesha Pathirana as their pacer, and Rahman would complete their quota of overseas pacers.

Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner has looked in ominous form in recent times. The left-arm spinner from New Zealand has rediscovered himself across formats and is someone who will be in demand in the auction. CSK, who have Ravindra Jadeja in their kitty, can look to add Santner to further solidify their spin attack. The Kiwi was excellent for his team in the recent Test series against India, and may find a way back in the CSK squad for next IPL as well.
