Hello and welcome to the D-day of the IPL Retentions. Keep your eyes peeled on our live updates here to get every little detail of which of your favourite players are staying and who is leaving to join a new team.
IPL 2025: New Retention and Financial Policies
Teams may retain up to six players, using a combination of direct retention and Right to Match (RTM) cards, with a maximum of five capped (Indian or overseas) and two uncapped players. The raised salary cap grants teams an INR 120 crore auction budget.
Performance pay and match fees now total INR 146 crore for 2025, projected to rise to INR 157 crore by 2027, with each player earning INR 7.5 lakh per game-a league first.
New Eligibility Rules Add Intrigue
Updated eligibility rules bring new complexity to this retention phase. Capped Indian players without recent national team appearances or BCCI contracts (within five years) can now be considered uncapped.
Whereas, foreign players must commit to auction registration or face a two-season suspension for withdrawal post-selection. As teams finalize their retention choices, fans await strategic moves that will shape the IPL 2025 season and beyond.
