Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have retained key players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma and strengthened their core going forward for the fresh season.
In order to create a well-balanced team that can defy the odds and compete for the title, they are expected to release several players who failed to deliver the ones who lacked game time or the ones with injuries. KKR got the better of SRH by 8 wickets to clinch the third title. On the other hand, SRH made it to the finals on three occasions (2016, 2018 and 2024). They won the title in the 2016 season by beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the showdown.
SRH are expected to release many players ahead of the auction. Glenn Phillips who joined SRH for INR 1.4 crore before the 2022 season got limited playing time. SRH will likely release him to free up space in the squad.
Abdul Samad who has been a long-standing member since the 2020 season, played in 50 games for SRH. In 2024, he scored 182 runs across 16 games, with an average of 18.20. He didn’t stand out in a power-packed batting lineup. He is likely to be released.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the players who might part ways with SRH. His performance dipped as he took only 11 wickets in 16 games last season. Given his calibre, SRH may look to release him to bring in fresh bowling options.
South Africa cricketer Aiden Markram - who led SA20 side Sunrisers Eastern Cape - to back-to-back titles failed to impress the team management and was released into the auction pool.
Marco Jansen, who was bought by SRH for INR 4.2 crore in 2022, played only three matches last season. Known for his new-ball wickets, he struggled to stop runs and lacked impact in the first place. SRH will likely release him.
Wanindu Hasaranga missed the 2024 season due to a heel injury. With SRH focused on fielding fit players, he is also expected to be released.
Umran Malik appeared in just one game last season. SRH plans to release him to build a more reliable bowling unit. Unadkat, with 99 wickets in 105 IPL matches, took 8 wickets in 11 games for SRH in 2024. The team is likely to release the 33-year-old left-arm pacer to free up resources and to bring a young dynamic pacer for the upcoming season.
Akash Singh who played only 7 games since IPL 2021 season is likely to be offloaded from the squad. The left-arm medium fast bowler did not get a chance to feature for the Sunrisers in the last season.
