It's the right team for the T20 World Cup, except for one player: Yuvraj Singh on India squad

Mohali, Sep 20: Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday (September 20) backed the Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad which has been picked up for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He, however, claimed that the entire squad, except for one player, deserved his spot but didn't name the player.

Yuvraj - who played an important role in Team India's T20 World Cup win in 2007 - was present at the PCA Stadium in Mohali ahead of the opening T20I between India and Australia. The legendary white-ball cricketer from Punjab while interacting with the commentators said on the official broadcasters, Star Sports, ahead of the match shared his thoughts on India's squad for T20 World Cup.

The stylish left-handed batter claimed the home T20I series against solid teams like Australia and South Africa would help Team India find the right balance for the marquee event and at least 15 players, included in the WC squad, should be tested.

While speaking on Star Sports' Cricket Live Show, Yuvraj said, "They need to try your best combination against Australia and South Africa in the upcoming T20Is. They shouldn't just try 11 players, in fact, 15 players should be tried to get the right balance for the world cup. Spinners are going to be very important because of the bigger grounds in Australia."

Further commenting upon the 15-member India squad for the T20 WC, starting October 16, Yuvraj said that the entire team, except for one player, looks pretty balanced. The 40-year-old lamented the fact that India's failure to defend the Asia Cup 2022 title could be a blessing in disguise for the Men in Blue.

"I think it's the right team for the world cup, except for one player, I won't take his name. Overall I think it's the right side, but we need to experiment before the world cup so that we don't make too many changes which have been a concern with us in the past. I want to see at least 13 players in this squad to be set heading into the world cup. I think the loss in Asia Cup 2022 is good for them (in a way). They can now learn from the mistakes there," he added further.

Yuvraj further said, "We exited the 2007 World Cup in West Indies in the first round and went on winning the T20 World Cup a few months later. So, I am expecting the same from this team as they failed in the Asia Cup."
