Jos Buttler offered multi-year contract from IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals: Reports

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals is reportedly planning to offer a lucrative annual contract of INR 40 crore to star England cricketer Jos Buttler. The whopping offer from the Jaipur-based franchise will be for four years, should England's white-ball captain agree to the terms.

As per a report in a UK news daily, The Telegraph, the IPL franchise wants the English star batter (32) to be associated with them, not just in India but also with the other leagues, where it has stakes.

Rajasthan Royals own a franchise Paarl Royals in the new SAT20 in South Africa and Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and bringing on board a player of Buttler's calibre will further strengthen the franchise in these leagues.

The news daily, however, doesn't carry any statement from Buttler, whether or not he's going to sign the offer from his IPL franchise. However, accepting the offer will not be an easy one for the explosive wicketkeeper-batter for that will put a question mark on his international career.

It is being reported that once Buttler accepts the IPL franchise's contract, he will have to take their approval to play for the national side. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will have to seek permission from the franchise to get the player's services for national duties after the deal is finalised.

However, signing a fresh contract with Rajasthan Royals will not be a smooth ride for Buttler even if he agrees to it. The ECB's stand is tough on allowing players to join global T20 tournaments on a multi-year contract. The board has in the past as well cleared its stand that it is averse to the idea of allowing its players to accept such offers.

Buttler - who was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2022 edition with 863 runs under his belt in 17 matches - helped Rajasthan Royals enter the final. The explosive batter slammed three IPL centuries in the 2022 season.

Buttler - who made his IPL debut in 2016 for Mumbai Indians - was purchased by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2018 season and became a vital member of the Jaipur-based franchise since then. He has been scoring runs on a consistent basing and is one of the most sought-after wicketkeeper batters in world cricket.
