KKR vs GT IPL 2023 Weather Updates: Will Rain Play Spoilsport at Eden Gardens today?

KKR vs GT Weather Updates: The IPL 2023 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans has been delayed due to a rain interruption in match number 39 at Eden Gardens on Saturday (April 29).

The toss did take place at its scheduled time i.e. 3 PM IST but the cloud cover and slight drizzle just before the start of the match forced the ground staff to cover the entire field.

The match will be delayed due to the overcast conditions as it is drizzling at the moment in Kolkata. The umpires and match officials are present at the venue for inspection even as the winds are blowing at high speed. The floodlights are on at Eden Gardens.

Some parts of the covers have been removed and the umpires are out in the middle for inspection. GT and KKR players started their warm-ups but it might still take some time to start the game.

As per Accuweather, there was no chance of precipitation during the game but the skies have once again proven the weathermen wrong. But there had been some short spells of rain in the City of Joy and the highly-anticipated day game on Saturday is going to have a delayed start.

The match finally started after a delay of 45 minutes but there was no deduction of overs. The umpires signalled the start of play as N Jagadeesan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz walked in the middle to open the batting for KKR.

Earlier in the day, GT captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first considering the cloud cover at the venue. After winning the toss, GT skipper Hardik Pandya said, "We will bowl first. Just because of the weather, it was bright when we came and we thought we should bat, but it has changed now.

"I'm pretty happy with where we are, 7 games gone, 7 more to come, we need to play good cricket and qualify for the playoffs. We will learn from the losses as well, but we just need to play some consistent cricket. We are playing the same team."

After losing the toss, KKR captain Nitish Rana said, "We would have batted first, DLS could come into the equation, but we would still have batted first. There are always areas where we can improve, we have had some forced changes - Jason Roy has a back issue, he's replaced by Gurbaz. Harshit Rana replaces Umesh Yadav."
