Shreyas Iyer's availability for Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday (March 23) is a matter of huge interest. KKR kickstart their IPL 2024 campaign at the Eden Gardens and the fans are eager to know the status of Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer is in the squad for this IPL. The batter missed out on IPL 2023 for a back injury, which has been troubling him for more than a year now.

Iyer has suffered with recurring back pain which has hampered his participation. The India batter had another episode of back pain in the England Test series and was subsequently dropped from the squad.
He lost his central BCCI contract for this year and then participated in the Ranji Final for Mumbai, where he scored 95 runs but then his back injury aggravated again. Amid doubts over his availability in IPL, Iyer joined the KKR squad.
He took part in two KKR intrasquad practice matches but will the Knight Riders captain be ready for the opening clash on Saturday?
As per the reports, the 29-year-old is poised to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. His back issue is currently stable and the player has been able to train and bat without any fresh pain. Hence we can expect Iyer to lead the line at the Eden Gardens.
Iyer's batting is a pivotal factor for the two-time IPL champions and his participation and fitness will play a key role in their season. The Kolkata team failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last two editions and it is imperative for them to make it to the last four this season.
KKR's first match on Saturday is against Sunrisers, who will be led by former KKR star Pat Cummins. It will also see the two most expensive IPL players locking horns as Mitchell Starc is almost certain to play as well.
