Former Sri Lanka captain Lahiru Thirimanne was on Thursday (March 14) hospitalised following a severe head-on collision involving the car he was travelling in, near the north-central city of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka.
While the exact extent of Thirimanne's injuries remains unclear, he is reported to be in stable condition at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. Another passenger from the same vehicle is also currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.

Thirimanne was reportedly on a pilgrimage when the accident occurred, with his vehicle colliding with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
Thirimanne, the left-handed opening batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler was on Wednesday (March 13) seen in action in the ongoing Legends Cricket Trophy 2024 in Pallekele.
Thirimanne was playing for New York Superstar Strikers against Kandy Samp Army and scored 18 runs off 14 deliveries while opening the batting for his team. After the top-order collapse, Thirimanne shared a vital 42-run stand with Colin de Grandhomme for the fourth wicket and staged a recovery for his team. However, his team ended up on the losing side.
Having debuted internationally in 2010, Thirimanne boasts an impressive cricketing career, having played 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs, and 26 T20Is. He participated in three T20 World Cup campaigns, including Sri Lanka's victorious campaign in 2014, and featured in two ODI World Cups.
