Let Virat spend 15 years on cricket field: Muralitharan on Kohli-Tendulkar comparison

New Delhi, June 9: Former Sri Lanka spinner Muttaiah Muralitharan has suggested that cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and Team India's 'run machine' Virat Kohli should not be compared for the time being.

The Lankan spin legend feels that comparison between the two is too early as Virat Kohli hasn't spent the amount of time as Sachin.

"Sachin has been a legend of the game. It's too early to compare these two. Let Virat play for 15 years and see where he finishes. Then only you can compare," Murali was quoted as saying.

In his career spanning 24 years, Tendulkar aggregated 15,921 runs from 200 Tests and amassed 18,426 runs in 463 ODI matches. While 27-year-old Kohli has made 2,994 runs in 41 Tests and 7,212 runs from 171 ODIs.

Muralitharan, however, praised India's Test skipper, who has emerged as the backbone of Indian batting line up, by saying, "He (Kohli) is just amazing".

The highest wicket-taker in cricket's history, Murali, too conceded that bowling to in-form Kohli would have been a tough task for him too.

"What's important about Virat is that he plays all cricketing shots for his runs," added Murali.

Muralitharan was a part of IPL 9 champion side Sunrisers Hyderabad's coaching staff and felt luck also favoured the SRH in this season.

"We clicked well as a unit. David Warner was fantastic as a captain as well as batsman. Luck has also favoured us in certain occasions," he added further.
