LSG vs CSK IPL 2024: Will Speedster Mayank Yadav Play For Lucknow Super Giants Against Chennai Super Kings?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will look to get back among the wins when they host defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Friday (August 19).

LSG, who opened their campaign with a loss to Rajasthan Royals, had bounced back with successive wins over Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans before going on a two-match losing spree after defeats to Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

In those two recent defeats, LSG's ability to defend totals over 160 successfully also came to an end as the Lucknow-based side suffered their third loss of the season. Coincidentally, the three defeats have come when speed sensation Mayank Yadav has not been part of the team.

The latest speedster announced his arrival in the lucrative leage with a sensational spell of 3 for 27 in 4 overs against Punjab Kings, clocking speeds over 150kmph for fun. He bowled the fastest delivery in the match by bowling at a speed of 155.8kmph.

The 21-year-old followed his spectacular debut with yet another impressive spell of 3 for 14 in 4 overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru, where he surpassed his previous quickest ball with a 156.7kmph delivery.

Mayank won the player of the match award in his first two matches, but was unfortunately forced to leave the field after bowling just the one over against Gujarat Titans. LSG still managed to win the match thanks to Yash Thakur's five-wicket haul.

However, since that victory over GT, Mayank has not featured for LSG with an abdominal issue, and the team has also struggled to defend a total over 160 in those matches. So, LSG will be desperate to have him back in the line up as soon as possible.

The speedster from Delhi, who was ruled out of last season due to a different injury, has missed action for the last two matches. LSG CEO Colonel Vinod Bisht had revealed last week before the DC match that the team will be cautious with Mayank's return to action.

In a boost for LSG, the pacer was seen bowling at the nets ahead of the CSK match. But his availabilty for the game is reportedly unclrear as the team may not look at rushing the pacer back into action.

According to a report by PTI, Mayank resumed training on Wednesday (April 17) but it remains unclear whether he would be given the clearance to play against CSK on Friday (April 19).

However, with an aim to stop the current losing run, LSG will be keen to bring in their most lethal weapon to challenge the CSK batting line up that includes in-form players such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni.

If he is fit to play, Mayank could also be used as an impact player. The 21-year-old pacer can be used as impact sub for Quinton de Kock, who is primarily wicketkeeper, but doesn't keep wickets for LSG as skipper KL Rahul dons the gloves.
