Thanks to Iyer's superb half century and Zaheer Khan's outstanding bowling last night (May 12), DD defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets in an IPL 2015 match at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium here.
The 20-year-old Iyer, who is from Mumbai, has been impressive at this year's IPL, his debut season. He has so far accumulated 419 runs in 13 innings (3 half centuries) as an opener. He was bought by DD for Rs 2.6 crore.
Iyer hit an unbeaten 70 off 49 balls against CSK with 10 fours and 1 six. After watching this knock, his skipper Duminy praised him. "He is a massive talent for India. I have told to his face that he will play for India in 2 to 3 years," the South African said.
DD have had a forgettable IPL season but Iyer has shone brighter for the team. He is one of the contenders to win the Emerging Player award.
Iyer made his first-class debut last year for Mumbai. So far, he has played 10 matches with a fine average of over 50 with 2 centuries and 6 fifties.
