MI vs RCB IPL 2024: Jasprit Bumrah five-wicket-haul, Ishan-Surya batting blitz help Mumbai Indians claim resounding win at home

By MyKhel Staff

Mumbai, Apr 11: Mumbai Indians mauled Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 7 wickets and made light work of the opposition's bowling in the run chase of 197 in IPL 2024 on Thursday (April 11) at Wankhede Stadium. Jasprit Bumrah and their top-order annihilated RCB as Hardik Pandya-led side registered a morale-boosting second win of the competition.

Ishan Kishan's explosive 34-ball 69 and Suryakumar Yadav's rapid-fire 19-ball 52 led the way for Mumbai Indians. Even Rohit Sharma chipped in with a brisk 38 off 24 balls. However, their knocks were overshadowed by the sheer brilliance of Kishan and Suryakumar.

SKY dazzles at night as Mumbai Indians win at home

Local boy Suryakumar - who was dismissed for a duck in the previous game, his first of this season - entertained the crowd with his belligerent knock and his trademark outrageous strokeplay. His innings were laced with five fours and three sixes. SKY smashed his career's fastest IPL fifty in this game as he took just 17 deliveries.

While left-handed opening batter Ishan Kishan smashed five sixes and seven fours in his knock. Kishan notched up his IPL fifty in 22 deliveries as he attacked RCB bowlers from the word go. 'DK Is The Real Thala' - Harsha Bhogle, Fans Salute

RCB's bowlers had a forgettable night, with none of them managing to keep the runs in check. Akash Deep, despite taking the crucial wicket of Kishan, conceded a massive 55 runs in his short spell. The other bowlers weren't much better, with Vijaykumar Vyshak and Will Jacks also leaking runs.

Hardik Pandya, the MI captain, joined the party with a quickfire 21 off just 6 balls, including three sixes. The crowd erupted as his India teammate Virat Kohli even signalled them to cheer on Pandya. Living up to the cheers, the Baroda all-rounder started his innings with a six and finished it off with another, sending a clear message that MI are a force to be reckoned with this season.

Jasprit Bumrah masterclass floors RCB

Earlier in the day, MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah showcased his bowling prowess with a remarkable five-wicket haul, while Dinesh Karthik played a spectacular innings in the final overs, guiding RCB to a respectable total of 196/8.

Captain Faf du Plessis (61) and Rajat Patidar (50) made significant contributions, allowing RCB to approach the 200-run mark. Karthik's unbeaten 53 off 23 balls came at a crucial juncture of the innings, providing the much-needed impetus.

In a match where RCB's other bowlers struggled, Bumrah's accuracy and variety proved crucial as he dismissed Virat Kohli (3) early on. Despite du Plessis and Patidar stabilising RCB's innings with a partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket, Bumrah's exceptional spell after the halfway mark posed a significant challenge to RCB's batting lineup. However, Karthik's aggressive batting against Akash Madhwal (1/57), accumulating 38 runs off two overs, helped RCB reach a competitive total.

Kohli's dismissal in Bumrah's first over and Will Jacks' early departure added pressure on RCB, but du Plessis' resilience during the powerplay helped stabilise the innings. Patidar's confidence grew as he scored his first fifty of the season, showcasing impressive shot-making abilities. Maxwell failed to make a mark in the game as he was dismissed for his third duck of the season while debutant Will Jacks also failed to leave a mark with the bat.
