MS Dhoni creates another batting record, this might be impossible to break

Colombo, Aug 31: Veteran India cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni claimed yet another record under his belt in his milestone 300th one-day international appearance.

Match Scorecard

As MS Dhoni returned unbeaten at 49 in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka, the 36-year-old former India captain achieved yet another mind-boggling record by remaining not out more than any batsman in the world.

Dhoni has now remained unbeaten on 73 occasions in his illustrious career so far. The right-handed batsman has leapfrogged former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock and Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas, who carried their bat through on 72 occasions in ODIs.

Dhoni, unarguably the best match-finisher the game has ever seen, also holds the record of most unbeaten knocks (40) in ODI run chases ahead of Jonty Rhodes (33), Inzamam-ul-Haq (32) and Ricky Ponting (31).

Dhoni averages a mind-boggling 101.84 in successful run chases and is the only batsman in the 300 ODI club to have a career batting average of 52.

Dhoni remained undefeated one short of a half-century score in his 300th ODI appearance as he went at the non-striker's end on the penultimate delivery of the 50th over of Indian innings.

Had he been able to complete his half-century, it could have been his 100th international half-century. The Dhoni-Pandey unbroken partnership for the sixth wicket yielded 101 runs in only 12.2 overs.

Earlier in the day, cricketers and fans alike, conveyed their best wishes to Dhoni as he became only the sixth Indian to feature in 300th ODI.

The current India skipper Virat Kohli felicitated Dhoni with a special memento before the start of the game and said the latter will forever be his captain. Kohli got a little emotional while talking about Dhoni's contribution towards Indian cricket.
