MS Dhoni finds lost mobile phones after registering FIR with Delhi Police

Police on Sunday recovered the three mobile phones of former Indian cricket skipper MS Dhoni that went missing after a hotel blaze from a firefighter.

New Delhi, March 19: Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has found his lost mobile phones a day after registering an FIR at a police station in New Delhi.

The Jharkhand cricketer had filed a an FIR at Dwarka Sector 10 police station and said to have lost 3 mobile phones.

A firefighter mistakenly took out the mobile phones without knowing its ownership, Deputy Commissioner of Police Surender Kumar told IANS.

"It was an error of judgment when he and three staff entered the room to sanitize it. When police contacted him, he handed over the phones," added the officer.

A complaint was filed by Dhoni on Saturday after his mobiles, including an iPhone, went missing during a fire at the WelcomHotel on Friday in Dwarka, Kumar was quoted by IANS as saying.

The complaint stated that he lost the devices during the evacuation process. Later after the fire was doused and he got back to his room, he found that his mobile phones were missing, Kumar said.

The mobile phones are said to have contained crucial information related to team India and BCCI.

The police are investigating the case and the hotel staff are being interrogated. A CCTV footage of the lobby is also being examined, Kumar added.

The Jharkhand cricket team was in Delhi to play the semi-final against Bengal in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Dhoni and Jharkhand cricketers were evacuated after fire broke out at the five-star hotel on Thursday morning (March 17). Cricketers were rescued safely, however, their kits were burnt as the fire in the hotel spread to their rooms.

Around 550 Indian and foreign guest were also evacuated. No casualties were reported.

After the accident, the BCCI has postponed the Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final match between Jharkhand and Bengal, which was supposed to be held on Friday, postponed to Saturday (March 18).

Jharkhand lost the semi-final game against Bengal on March 18 by 41 runs. Dhoni scored 62-ball 70 but failed to finish things for his side as he was dismissed in the 44th over.
