A defamation case has been filed against former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni at the Delhi High Court by his former business partner, Mihir Diwakar.

The lawsuit, also joined by Diwakar's wife, Soumya Das, comes close on the heels of the allegations of a breach of contract between Dhoni and Aarka Sports Management, a company owned by Diwakar and Das.

MS Dhoni Vs Mihir Diwakar Defamation Case Background

The roots of the legal battle trace back to 2017 when MS Dhoni agreed with Aarka Sports Management to establish cricket academies in India and around the world. The contract, at the centre of the dispute, aimed to facilitate the growth of cricket and nurture young talent. However, things took a sour turn, leading to a breakdown in the business relationship between Dhoni and the owners of Aarka Sports Management.

MS Dhoni Defamation Case: Allegations and Counter-Allegations

The crux of the matter lies in the defamatory allegations exchanged between the parties involved and according to the suit filed by Diwakar and Das, Dhoni and those representing him allegedly accused the owners of Aarka Sports Management of duping the cricketer of nearly Rs 15 crore after failing to establish the cricket academies within the agreed-upon timeframe.

In response, Mihir Diwakar claimed that even before the court had a chance to make its findings, Dhoni's lawyer, Dayanand Sharma, conducted a press conference where defamatory statements were made.

The defamation case was filed on January 16 and is scheduled for a hearing before Justice Pratibha M Singh on Thursday (January 18). The court will weigh the evidence presented by both parties to determine the validity of the defamation claims and the extent of damage caused. The legal battle adds another layer to the already complex relationship between Dhoni and his former business associates.

Implications for MS Dhoni:

The defamation case against MS Dhoni comes at a crucial time in his post-cricketing career. Despite retiring from international cricket, Dhoni remains a prominent figure in the cricketing world as he continues to be the biggest player in the cash-rich Indian Premier League as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

As the legal proceedings unfold, cricket fans and legal observers alike will closely watch the developments in the defamation case against India's most decorated cricketer. The outcome of this legal dispute may have repercussions on the Jharkhand cricketer's public image and his continued involvement in the cricketing arena.
