MS Dhoni will have no qualms playing under Virat Kohli's leadership in ODIs: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra said the national selectors must take a call after the 2017 Champions Trophy on Dhoni's future, so that Kohli can get atleast two years in such a scenario.

New Delhi, Dec 19: Days after former India opener Virender Sehwag backed Virat Kohli to be made captain of all three formats, now ex-Test cricketer Aakash Chopra too feels that Kohli should be handed over Team's baton in One-Day International (ODI) as well.

Career high rank for Kohli in Tests

As per the former India opener Aakash Chopra Kohli should be made skipper if the selectors do not feel incumbent Mahendra Singh Dhoni can continue till the 2019 cricket World Cup.

MS Dhoni will have no problems playing under Virat Kohli in ODIs: Aakash Chopra

The Delhi batsman on Monday (Dec 19) said the national selectors must take a call after the 2017 Champions Trophy on Dhoni's future, so that Kohli can get atleast two years in such a scenario.

The 39-year-old also felt that Dhoni wouldn't have any problems playing under Kohli's leadership in the 50-over format.

"Yes, Dhoni can surely play under Kohli in ODI," Chopra said during commentary of the India's ongoing fifth and final Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here.

"But that's a call selectors need to take post the Champions trophy in 2017. If they don't view Dhoni as a captain in 2019, it's only fair to give Kohli two years before the event," he added.

The 35-year-old Dhoni has led India to two World Cup victories (World T20 in 2007 and 50-over World Cup in 2011) and the Champions Trophy crown in 2013 besides guiding the side to No.1 in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Rankings in December 2009.

Kohli, on the other hand, is leading the Test side from the front. Kohli is the leading run getter across all formats in the year 2016.

Kohli's performance in the limited overs format has also been in sensational form in the year 2016.

Under Kohli's captaincy Indian Test team has won 17 matches without any loss and once again topped the ICC Test rankings under his leadership.
