  • This will be the first men’s international between New Zealand and Uganda and the Black Caps will become just the fourth full member nation to face Uganda in a men’s T20I after Afghanistan, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe.
  • New Zealand have won 11 of their 12 previous men’s T20I matches against associate member nations but were defeated in their second-to-last such fixture by the United Arab Emirates at Dubai in August 2023.
  • The last time New Zealand failed to reach the knockout stages of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was in 2014 in Bangladesh when they lost two of their four group stage games, losing to South Africa and Sri Lanka at that edition.
  • Uganda have alternated between wins and losses across their last six men’s T20Is (W3 L3), including a 134-run loss to the West Indies in their most recent match; in fact, they haven’t lost back-to-back games in the format since July 2022.
  • This will be Uganda’s fourth men’s T20I fixture against a full member opposition having won only one of their past three (L2); they defeated Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in November 2023 but have lost to both the West Indies and Afghanistan at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
  • New Zealand have dropped two catches in four of their last five men’s T20Is including in each of their two games so far at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup; in fact, their catch success rate of 69.2% in the ongoing edition of the competition is the second lowest of all sides to been presented at least 10 chances so far (Oman – 56.3%).
  • Trent Boult (New Zealand) has taken two or more wickets in each of his last three games at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, including figures of 3/16 against the West Indies last time out, his second-best figures at the tournament after 4/13 against Sri Lanka in 2022.
  • Riazat Ali Shah (Uganda) has finished each of his last five T20I innings with a batting strike rate of 60 or lower after scoring at least one run per ball faced in 10 of his 11 innings in the format prior; he has also been dismissed for fewer than five runs in three of his last five innings.
  • Glenn Phillips (New Zealand) has made a good connection on 72.5% off his 51 balls faced at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the highest of any player from either New Zealand or Uganda despite only one player across those teams facing more deliveries than Phillips (Riazat Ali Shah, 58.2% from 98 balls faced).
  • New Zealand’s Trent Boult (31% off 48 deliveries) and Uganda’s Juma Miyaji (31% off 42 deliveries) are the only players from either the New Zealand or Uganda teams to have enticed batters to play and miss at more than 21% of their deliveries at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
