Nitish Rana, the vice-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has revealed an emotional incident which inspired him to buy a Mercedes car for his father. Rana recalled how his handicapped father used to drive the automatic model of Maruti Suzuki 800.
The 30-year-old said the Maruti 800 automatic was the only car which his family could afford, adding that he was once suggested by his father to look away after sighting a Mercedes car while travelling. At that moment Rana pledged to buy a swanky Mercedes car in future.

“There was a time when my Dad had a Maruti 800 and he’s handicapped, so we could only afford that automatic car because it was the cheapest. Once while travelling in that, we saw a Mercedes and I really liked it, however my dad told me to look away because it was very costly," Nitish Rana said on KKR's Knights Dugout.
"There and then I decided whenever I have enough money, the first car I would buy would be a Mercedes and when I bought it for my dad, it was a very emotional moment for me and my Dad," he added.

Rana, who has played one ODI and two T20I for India, was retained for Rs 8 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He was first bought by the franchise in 2018 for Rs 3.40 crore.
He captained KKR in the absence of Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2023. The Delhi-born cricketer said he felt the pressure but got immense support from KKR management and fans.
“There was some pressure because I was captaining for the first time. However, I received unmatchable support from the team management as well as the people of Kolkata and I really needed it.
“I’ve been playing here for seven years now and I’ve been showered with lots of love. The amount of love I’ve received from the fans as a KKR player has been incredible," Nitish Rana said.
Nitish Rana has managed to play just one match for KKR in the ongoing IPL 2024. He played KKR's opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before being sidelined due to a finger injury.
