'No Rocket Science': Mohammed Shami's honest reply after making history

Mohammed Shami created history as India's highest wicket-taker in the World Cups as the pacer picked up five wickets against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on Thursday (November 2).

It was a dominant victory for the Indian team who outclassed Sri Lanka in every department. Mohammed Shami played a massive part as he wrapped up the Lankan batting with a five-for, his 2nd in this World Cup.

Shami's spell was a clinical one, as the pacer started taking wickets from his first over. In five overs, the pacer managed to pick up his five-for, conceding just 18 runs in the process.

Mohammed Shami achieved many milestones in the match and was awarded as the Player of the Match as well. As the pacer spoke in the post-match interview, he decoded his excellent bowling spell.

Shami said he tries to pitch the ball in the right area and concentrates more on his rhythm as it is the most important part for a bowler.

"Yeah, I am trying, as always, trying to pitch the ball in the right areas and trying to find the right rhythm, because in big tournaments, if you lose the rhythm it's very difficult to get it back. So right from the start, the attempt has been to focus on the right areas and right lengths, and it's working, so why not try to repeat it?" Shami said in his interview.

Shami now has 45 wickets in World Cups and thus he becomes the highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cups for India. The Bengal pacer has picked up 14 wickets in just three matches in this edition of the competition, and when asked about the recipe for his success, the pacer says there is no rocket science behind this.

"Not rocket science. Just a matter of rhythm, good food, keep your mind uncluttered, and, most importantly, the love of the people. The support we get in India has a huge role. When you go out of India, you get so much support from Indians. So I will keep trying to make everyone happy," he added.

With the victory, India become the first team to qualify for the semifinals and sit on top of the WC 2023 table. Rohit Sharma and his troops have won all of their seven matches so far and take on South Africa in the next match.
