The announcement of BCCI's central contract for the 2023-24 season has seen a fair share of eyebrow raises.
The omission of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan was a rumor but it has turned out to be true. All of the four Grade A+ players have retained their positions, while we have seen a few new names added to the contract list as well.

A total of 15 players have been included in the Grade C category, which is four more than last year. Shreyas Iyer was in Grade B in 2023 while Ishan Kishan was in Grade C, but now both find out of contract for the 2023-24 season, which will run till September 30 this year.
But amid the fuss about Iyer and Kishan, two other Indian stars have found themselves left out of the contract as well.
Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal both haven't been included in the latest contracts. Dhawan, who has mostly been playing ODI cricket and out of the Indian team since 2022, finds no pay scale, whereas Yuzvendra Chahal is also not a part of the contract for this season.
Yuzvendra Chahal was part of the T20I squad in South Africa but didn't play a single game in the series. On the other hand, we can assume 38-year-old Shikhar Dhawan's future as an Indian player is all but over.

Umesh Yadav also sees his name omitted from the latest BCCI contract. The 36-year-old pacer's last India appearance came in 2023 against Australia in the WTC Championship Final. All of the three players were in Grade C of BCCI contracts last year.
The neglected trio will be taking part in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Shikhar Dhawan is set to captain Punjab Kings, whereas Yuzvendra Chahal will be representing Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming edition of the tournament. Umesh Yadav will also play in the IPL this season, representing Gujarat Titans.
