In a month filled with cricketing brilliance, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and West Indies' Hayley Matthews emerged as the standout performers, earning the prestigious ICC Men's and Women's Player of the Month awards for October.
Their exceptional contributions during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 and the T20I series against Australia, respectively, propelled them to well-deserved recognition.

Rachin Ravindra, a 23-year-old Blackcaps batter, made an indelible mark on the World Cup stage with a series of memorable knocks that showcased his prowess. Despite having only 12 ODI appearances before the tournament, Ravindra's remarkable form began with a stunning 123 not out against defending champions England, setting the tone for New Zealand's campaign.
Stylish half-centuries against Netherlands and India followed, culminating in a breathtaking 116 against Australia in a match that nearly saw them chase down a formidable target of 389. Ravindra finished the month amassing 406 runs at an impressive average of 81.20 in six fixtures.
Upon receiving the ICC Men's Player of the Month award, Ravindra expressed gratitude, acknowledging the special month for both himself and the team. He credited the team's support and the favorable batting conditions in India, emphasizing the freedom to play his natural game.
Ravindra commented, "I'm very grateful to win this award. It's been a special month personally and for the team. Being able to play a World Cup in India has been incredibly special.
"Being backed by the team helps a lot, as well as being able to go out there with a lot of freedom and play your natural game. The lucky thing is that the wickets have been really nice to bat on, which suits my game in terms of being positive and taking the game on."
On the women's front, Hayley Matthews secured her second ICC Women's Player of the Month award with outstanding performances in the T20I series against Australia. As the top-ranked all-rounder in the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings, Matthews played a pivotal role in West Indies' battles against the defending world champions.
Despite losing the first T20I in North Sydney, Matthews showcased her prowess by smashing an unbeaten 99 and taking the prized wicket of Alyssa Healy. Her standout moment came in the next match, where she chased a daunting 213 for victory, blasting an impressive 132 not out in just 64 balls.
Matthews also claimed crucial wickets during Australia's innings. The series concluded with another impactful performance, as she scored 79, ending the month with a total of 310 runs at an extraordinary average of 155.
Reflecting on her achievement, Matthews expressed gratitude for the ICC Women's Player of the Month award, emphasizing the special feeling of representing West Indies. She highlighted the joy of bringing smiles to the faces of Caribbean cricket fans and the significance of uniting people through the sport.
"I'm very grateful to have received the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for October. I love pulling on the West Indies jersey. Every time I wear that maroon and gold, it definitely adds an extra layer where you can go out there and perform well, not only for yourself and for the team, but in knowing how much cricket means to the people of the Caribbean and how much it can bring people together."
Both Ravindra and Matthews earned their titles through votes cast by global fans and a panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives. As they bask in the glory of their accomplishments, these cricketers have not only etched their names in the records but also added another layer to the rich tapestry of international cricket.
