After being put in a tough group containing the likes of India and Australia, both teams will be eager to kick off their World Cup campaign with a strong performance. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have yet to lift the T20 World Cup trophy, and will need to be at their best to advance from Group A in the tournament.

Pakistan faced a tough run in their pre-tournament warm-ups, losing to Scotland by eight wickets and Bangladesh by 23 runs. In contrast, Sri Lanka secured victories over both Bangladesh and Scotland, winning by 33 runs and five wickets, respectively.
Pakistan, led by new captain Fatima Sana, will be relieved to have Sadia Iqbal in their squad, pending fitness, after she bowled seven overs in the warm-up games and picked up two wickets against Bangladesh. Iqbal has been a key player, having played all 32 T20Is for Pakistan since the start of 2023 and being their leading wicket-taker in this period.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will also back themselves to get a positive result from the game, having won their last three T20I matches against Pakistan, including the semi-final of the Asia Cup. All eyes will be on batter Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka's captain and star player.
