Pak spinner Danish Kaneria seeks 'powerful' BCCI's help to get his ban lifted

New Delhi, June 3: Banned Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has reportedly asked for powerful Indian cricket board BCCI's help to return to the game.

Kaneria, who is on a religious tour of India with his family, the 35-year-old cricketer was quoted by TOI as saying, "I've got so much love from India every time I come here. Though I'm not scheduled to meet any BCCI officials, I won't mind meeting them on this trip. I appeal to the Indian board to help me out, because they've the power to do so."

Kaneria was banned for life by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2012 on charges of trying to entice some of his teammates at Essex county to spot fix matches on behalf of a Indian bookmaker.

Kaneria who has denied his involvement in spot-fixing also filed two appeals with the ECB tribunal and commercial court in UK but in both cases his appeals were dismissed.

He wants BCCI to connect him to ICC so that he can get his ban lifted, imposed on him for his alleged role in spot-fixing in County cricket.

The spinner has been fighting legal battle to 'restore his honour' and return to the game, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have shown little interest to his pleas.

To make matters worse the ECB had filed a petition in the Sindh High Court seeking a court order that his property and other assets be sold for recovery of the costs of the spot fixing case that the ECB incurred.

Danish had earlier said he just wanted one final chance to prove his innocence in a proper court or before a tribunal of the PCB or International Cricket Council.

Ever since he came to India, speculations were rife over the real purpose of his visit to India. Kaneria had earlier this year reportedly said he would have got more justice in India being a Hindu by faith.

Kaneria is only the second Hindu after Anil Dalpat to play for Pakistan. He has played 62 games for Pakistan in which he took 261 wickets.
