Perfect tribute: Kohli does a Sehwag to reach record century

Chennai, Oct 22: In what could be seen a tribute to the retired Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli did what the former opener was best know for - smashing a six to reach hundred!

Sehwag bid adieu to international cricket the Indian Premier League (IPL) on his 37th birthday on Tuesday (October 20). Today, 2 days later, he returned to cricket and smashed 136 in a Ranji Trophy game for Haryana against Karnataka in Mysuru.

Kohli celebrates his century

In Chennai during the 4th ODI against South Africa, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Sehwag's city-mate and one of India's best batsmen in recent times, Kohli too brought up a record-setting hundred. Sehwag had famously reached his maiden triple ton with a six off Saqlain Mushtaq of Pakistan in Multan.

The 26-year-old Kohli brought up his 23 ODI ton to go past Sourav Ganguly and move to 5th in the all-time century-makers list in the world. He made 138 as India scored 299/8.

Kohli now holds the tons' record among current cricketers. The other 4 above him have all retired. Sachin Tendulkar leads the table with 49 hundreds.

What was different to see today was Kohli racing from 95 to the hundred with a six off left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso. He stepped out of the crease and smashed the bowler over the long-on boundary to bring up hundred in Sehwag's way.
