MS Dhoni meets 'chaiwala' friend in Kolkata, throws him a lavish dinner - See Pics

Kolkata, March 3: He may not be playing international cricket as of now, but former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is still making headlines for his captaincy skills in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as well as for his gesture off-the field.

Nostalgia seems to be gripping MS Dhoni, ever since he boarded the train with his Jharkhand state team to play the premier domestic one-day tournament in Kolkata.

Dhoni, who worked as a junior Train Ticket Inspector (TTI) at Kharagpur station before becoming a household name, came into news for boarding the train after a gap of 13 years.

The senior India cricketer has from time to time proved that he's associated with his roots. In a similar gesture, the Ranchi-lad gave memory of a life-time to a tea stall owner, whose shop he used to frequent daily during his TTI days.

Thomas, the tea stall owner, decided to meet Dhoni and went to the Eden Gardens stadium where Jharkhand is playing the one-day tournament.

Thomas met Dhoni and to the tea stall owner's surprise, Dhoni recognised him immediately. The 'captain cool' reciprocated by taking Thomas along with his 11 friends, during his time in the Railways, for dinner at a hotel in Kolkata.

The 35-year-old cricketer ensured that all of his friends were comfortable and safe.

In the biopic made on India's most successful captain 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' it was shown how the cricketer's friends played a crucial role in his success. The skipper still remembers the contributions of his friends and sacrifices made by his closed ones to help him become what he is today.

Even the movie narrated one such incident when Dhoni called one of his colleague to a hotel in Kolkata when he visited the city to play an international game for India.

An all-excited Thomas anxiously waited for Dhoni outside the Eden Gardens stadium and rushed towards the cricketer and gave him a hug while the latter was going out of the stadium. Dhoni not only recognised him but also took Thomas for dinner that very evening.
