New Delhi, March 25: When he interacted with the media during Delhi Capitals' practice session ahead of the IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, there was a noticeable shift in Prithvi Shaw.
He looked like a man transformed. Not just in what he said, but how he said it. Calm, composed, and reflective, the young India batter appeared a far more evolved individual as he articulated his thoughts-prompting some journalists to jokingly ask if he had turned spiritual.

Once known for his explosive batting, chirpy nature during practice drills, and equally turbulent phases off the field, the 27-year-old batter now seems to be embracing clarity over chaos. And perhaps, as he admitted with a smile, a bit of personal happiness has helped.
Recently engaged to actor-influencer Akriti Agarwal, Shaw referred to his partner as a "lucky charm," but what stood out more was the balance and maturity with which he addressed questions around change and expectations.
When asked what he is doing differently this season, Shaw didn't resort to clichés or grand promises. Instead, he offered a grounded, almost philosophical response.
"Whatever ups and downs happened, I handled them with a smile. If you make mistakes, you learn from them. As you grow, you understand things better," he said.
It was a telling answer-one that reflected growth not just as a cricketer, but as a person. The flamboyant youngster from Mumbai who once carried the weight of expectations now seems to have learned how to carry himself.
Shaw admitted that he has consciously worked on staying mentally strong, especially during difficult phases.
"I used to take a lot of stress, but now I deal with it with a smile. Life is a challenge-you have to accept it," he said, highlighting a shift in mindset that could prove crucial in a high-pressure tournament like the IPL.
His cricketing journey so far mirrors that evolution. In 79 IPL matches, Shaw has scored 1,892 runs at a strike rate of 147.47, with a highest score of 99 and 14 half-centuries-numbers that underline his potential but also hint at inconsistency.
On the international stage, flashes of brilliance have been interspersed with missed opportunities. In Tests, Shaw has scored 339 runs in five matches at an average of 42, while in ODIs, he has 189 runs from six games at an average of 32. Despite a promising start, his last appearances for India came back in 2020 (Tests) and 2021 (ODIs).
Yet, if his words are anything to go by, Shaw is no longer dwelling on what could have been. Instead, he is focused on what lies ahead. "I don't think too much. It's about what I can do today-how much effort I can put in," he said, reinforcing his present-first approach.
That composure was evident throughout the interaction. Whether it was handling questions about expectations, competition, or his past struggles, Shaw remained measured-never defensive, never overconfident.
There is also a sense that he has made peace with the unpredictability of cricket. "You can't promise anything in this game. It could be a 50 or it could be zero. The focus is to give your best," he noted.
As he returns to Delhi Capitals for IPL 2026, Shaw's biggest strength might no longer be just his bat-but his mindset. The prodigy is still there. The talent is unquestionable. But now, there is something more-perspective.
And if that "lucky charm" and newfound calm can translate into performances on the field, IPL 2026 could well mark the beginning of a long-awaited resurgence for Prithvi Shaw.
