Prithvi Shaw-Sapna Gill Hotel Brawl: Bombay High Court Issues Notice to Delhi Capitals Opener

Mumbai, Apr 13: India cricketer and Delhi Capitals' opener Prithvi Shaw on Thursday (April 13) has been issued a notice by the Bombay High Court after a petition was filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill.

Sapna Gill has urged the high court to quash the FIR filed against her by Shaw for allegedly assaulting the cricketer and demanding money. The court has also issued notice to Mumbai Police.

The first information report (FIR) was lodged in February this year after Gill and her friends got into a scuffle with Shaw and some of his friends outside a hotel in suburban Mumbai over taking selfies.

Gill later lodged a counter-complaint against the 23-year-old batsman. A division bench of Justices S B Shukre and M M Sathaye on Thursday issued a notice to the police and Shaw on Gill's plea for quashing the FIR against her and posted the matter for hearing in June.

Gill's lawyer Ali Kashif Khan told the bench the police were hand in glove with the Mumbai cricketer and had lodged a fake case against the social media influencer.

Khan sought a court direction to the police to procure and safeguard CCTV footage from inside the hotel in suburban Andheri to show what exactly transpired before the scuffle.

Gill, in the plea, also sought direction from the police to not file a chargesheet against her in the case. She had also accused the cricketer and his friend of molesting her in a public place, outraging her modesty, and physically assaulting her with a deadly weapon.

Gill - who has worked in some Bhojpuri movies - even alleged that Shaw touched her inappropriately and pushed her away. The incident occurred in February at the Barrel Mansion Club in Vile Parle East. Videos of the altercation also went viral on social media.

Shaw - who is participating in the IPL 2023 for the Delhi franchise - has had a forgettable outing with the bat in the showpiece competition. The talented right-handed batter has scored 12, 7, 0, and 15 in the first four games in IPL 2023. Delhi have lost all first four games in the ongoing tournament.
