New Delhi, March 6: Australia vice-captain caught himself in the eye of yet another storm after CCTV footage showed him involved in an off-field altercation with South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock.
As per a Cricket Australia report, it has been alleged that de Kock instigated the commotion by saying derogatory comments about Warner's wife, Candice.
Coming out in Warner's support Australia skipper Steve Smith claimed that de Kock said something personal that evoked such a response from the Australian vice-captain while the teams were heading towards the dressing room during the tea break on the fourth day of the first Test.
"Quinton got personal and evoked an emotional response from Davey. Those things are not on from both sides. Getting personal on the field is crossing the line in my opinion," Smith said on the entire episode.
"What was said and done during that interval was regrettable on both sides," said Australian captain.
Smith's version was disputed by South African manager Mohammed Moosajee, who blamed Warner. "There were words said out on the field. If you are saying something you've got to take it and that's the opinion of Quinton. Let the investigations begin and let the match officials decide," said Moosajee.

While former South Africa captain and Graeme Smith said he heard the Australians getting personal towards the Proteas gloveman on the stump mic.
According to media reports in South Africa, Warner took pot shots at de Kock's family members and called the 25-year-old a "bush pig".
The CCTV footage shows Warner being restrained by teammates Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon before being persuaded to go into the dressing room by Smith.
Australia wrapped up a 118-run win on the fifth day of the first Test against South Africa on Monday but the result is likely to be overshadowed by an ugly bust-up at Kingsmead, Durban.
The entire matter is being probed by the ICC now and both the sides await any further communication from the ICC.
