The Chennai off-spinner broke the record previously held by Pakistan's Waqar Younis who achieved this milestone in 38 Tests.
During Test series against West Indies, a wet outfield in the final Test match denied Ravichandran Ashwin a opportunity to equal a major Test record of becoming the fastest bowler to get 200 Test wickets.
