Ashwin has so far claimed 248 wickets in 44 Tests and needs just two more preys to touch the milestone. Lillee, who owns the record for fastest to 250 scalps in Tests, achieved in 48 Tests. (Kohli backs 'solid batsman' Rahane)

This means Ashwin has 3 more games in hand to surpass Lillee, but given the kind of form the off-spinner is in, the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2016 will certainly claim the remaining two wickets in the very next match against Bangladesh.

Hyderabad has been a happy hunting ground for the tall off-spinner where he has bagged two five-wicket hauls in four innings he has bowled here.

Ashwin has picked up 248 wickets in 44 Tests at an impressive average of 24.96, including 24 five-wicket hauls.

He bagged 28 wickets in the five Test rubber against England and would be keen to continue his dominance over Indian pitches.

The Tamil Nadu all-rounder must be eager to give a great start to his Test campaign in the year 2017 for India will be playing 5 Tests ( 1 against Bangladesh, 4 against Australia) before IPL 2017 starts in April.

Earlier in September last year, he became the fastest Asian and second fastest in the world to claim 200 Test wickets. Ashwin took 37 Tests to reach the milestone to break the record previously held by Pakistan's Waqar Younis who achieved it in 38 Tests.
