Exclusive! Rahul Dravid's advice to practice with a red ball is Ibrahim Zadran's mantra for success in Test cricket

By Indranil Basu

With so much white ball cricket being played around the world on flat pitches, negotiating swinging deliveries as well as a good spinner sometimes become a humongous job. Hence, former Indian coach Rahul Dravid has given a phenomenal advice to Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran.

According to Zardan, Dravid has told him to keep a red ball inside his kit bag and practice with it as much a possible to get used to swing bowling. "With so much of white ball being played here, scope to play with red ball is so less and therefore Dravid's advice was really helpful and I am following it quite religiously," Zadran told MyKhel inside the SG complex in Meerut.

Afghanistan cricketers are gearing up to take on the strong New Zealand side in the one-Test match series which begins on September 9 at Greater Noida. Both the teams are here and sharpening up their skills for the encounter.

Dravid's advice to Zadran is both practical and insightful. "Practicing with a red ball, which tends to swing more and offers greater assistance to bowlers, is an excellent way to sharpen a batter's technique against swing bowling. It also helps in developing a better understanding of how to deal with quality spin, which often comes into play on more challenging surfaces," Zadran, who is a big Virat Kohli fan, said.

Zadran, who has the making of a big Afghan star, is also preparing himself for the tougher challenges that swinging deliveries present-an aspect that could significantly elevate his game when facing top-tier bowlers in all formats. Dravid's experience and wisdom continue to impact players across the cricketing world, and Zadran's adoption of this approach reflects the importance of adapting one's training methods to remain competitive at the highest levels.

With BCCI also making it clear that participation at the domestic cricket is a must to tighten the technique for a batter, Dravid is and will always be an important guide to all the cricketers from past and present.
