Ravi Shastri wants Virat Kohli & Co. to break Australia world record in Tests

Colombo, Aug 8: Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team put up a clinical performance in second Test against Sri Lanka and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three Test series.

Team India scored another 600-plus total in the longer format of the game. It was the 29th occasion when Indian batters put up a score in excess of 600.

India have now scored six 600-plus totals under Kohli's captaincy which is the most by a team under a captain in Tests till day.

Kohli and Co. are now only behind Australia who have scored 600-plus totals on 32 times, putting them at the top.

Team India's head coach Ravi Shastri feels Kohli's boys are capable of surpassing Australia's record and wants it to happen under his tenure.

"India can certainly surpass Australia's record of scoring over 600 runs most number of times. I am sure this team will surely achieve this. When, I can't say. Whether this year, next year or some other time. But I would be happy if it is done during my tenure as a coach with the team," Shastri was quoted Deccan Chronicle as saying.

The current Indian batting line-up is one of the best in the world. The likes of KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are all capable of playing big knocks and it is their good form that has helped the team post huge totals on the board.

An upbeat India will be facing Sri Lanka in the third Test at Pallekele International Stadium, starting Saturday (August 12) and they would hope to score another mammoth total in that match.

India on Sunday (August 6) crushed Sri Lanka by an innings and 53 runs in the second Test that was wrapped up within four days.

Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin were the wrecker-in-chief for the Indians in the two innings as Sri Lanka failed to match India's first innings total of 622.

The hosts scored 183 and 386 in their first and second innings respectively.
