RCB vs LSG, IPL 2024: Should RCB drop Faf du Plessis from their Playing 11 against LSG?

In match number 15 of the IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will welcome Lucknow Super Giants in their home, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (April 2).

RCB has played 3 matches in this season of IPL so far and lost two of them. They were only able to beat PBKS while against CSK and KKR, their luck did not favour them. Also, they became the first team in IPL 2024 to lose a match on their home ground.

IPL 2024: Reasons behind the poor display by RCB

Traditionally RCB has remained a batter-heavy team, this year is also no exception. As a result, their bowling unit failed to complement the status of their batting unit numerous times in the past.

Over-dependence on the top-order batters like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Cameron Green has also troubled RCB for a few seasons. A failure of one of them puts pressure on the whole batting line-up.

IPL 2024: Why Faf du Plessis has failed in IPL 2024 so far?

This problem is hurting the Royal Challengers very much as the RCB skipper Faf du Plessis has failed to justify his skills and experiences. In three matches he scored only 46 runs with a strike rate of 127.78.

In the last season, he was phenomenal for RCB as he scored 730 runs in 14 matches with a brilliant average of 56.15. He remained consistent across the seasons for RCB and scored 4179 runs in 133 matches. He ranked 15th in the list of all-time highest scorers of IPL.

IPL 2024, RCB vs LSG: Should RCB drop Faf du Plessis from the squad?

The former captain of the South Africa National Cricket team has been out of touch with international cricket for a long time. Also, his increasing age is not doing him any favour. One of the greatest fielders of the era is also struggling to catch up with his past performances.

At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium Du Plessis's record is exceptionally good. The RCB skipper has played 12 matches at tomorrow's venue and grabbed 438 runs with an average of 54.75.

Keeping in the favourable stats for RCB at the stadium it will be very difficult for RCB thinktank to drop him from the playing XI in the duel against the Super Giants. Also, he is the captain of the team and it is very unlikely that RCB management will take such a drastic step so early in the tournament.
