Record: Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar

Bangalore, Dec 24: Virat Kohli's popularity hit a new mark today when he surpassed batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, on Twitter. Kohli is now the most followed sportsperson, on Twitter, in the country.

Kohli, who is enjoying a string of successes in international cricket, has now got more followers than Tendulkar, on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Both Kohli and Tendulkar have over 4 million followers. However, Kohli has now moved past Tendulkar by over a margin of 5,000 followers. (Also read: Kohli, Dhawan 'fight')

In October this year, Kohli hit the 4 million followers mark and tweeted about it with a selfie. On October 2, he had tweeted, "Here's the 4 million follower selfie. Hope you like it:)". Kohli joined Twitter in September 2009 while Tendulkar's account is active since April 2010.

Kohli captained Indian Test team for the first time in Adelaide earlier this month. He struck centuries in both innings but ended up on the losing side.
