Rohit Sharma on Sunday (November 19) broke yet another sixes record held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle with three maximums against Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Rohit, who overtook Gayle's tally for most sixes in the ODI World Cup during the semi-final against New Zealand, surpassed the West Indies great's tally for most sixes against a single opposition by smashing his 86th maximum vs Australia.

Gayle previously held the record with 85 sixes in 34 innings vs England. The Indian skipper got his team off to a fast start, smashing 3 sixes and 4 fours in his knock of 47 from 31 balls, during which he surpassed Gayle's tally to reach 87 sixes vs a single opposition.
Rohit reached the landmark in his 45th ODI innings vs Australia. He now leads the chart that also includes the likes of Shahid Afridi, Sanath Jayasuriya and Eoin Morgan. Rohit also appears a second time on the list for his maximums vs Sri Lanka. Here is a look at the list:
Earlier in the tournament, Rohit broke the record for most sixes in a single World Cup and also most sixes in international cricket. On both occasions, the 36-year-old surpassed Gayle's tally to take the top spot.
