Rohit Sharma expresses happiness in a heartfelt message

New Delhi, Dec 19: Team India stand-in captain Rohit Sharma led the team to a convincing 2-1 win over Sri Lanka in the ODI series.

The 30-year-old Mumbai cricketer suffered a massive setback in his first game as skipper when India were humiliated by the visitors in the opening game in Dharamsala.

The cricketer, however, led the side from the front and slammed yet another double hundred in the second ODI in Mohali to singlehandedly guide his team to a mammoth 141-run win and level the series.

In the deciding ODI in Visakhapatnam, the Men In Blue showed why they are a team to beat at home and registered a clinical eight-wicket win to claim the series 2-1.

Rohit was lauded for his astute captaincy skills in the last two ODIs after suffering a shock defeat in the opening game. The cricketer, who has led IPL franchise Mumbai Indians to three IPL triumphs, was hailed for rotating his bowlers brilliantly and kept things tight for the visitors.

Rohit's captaincy skills were lauded for his brilliant bowling changes and field placements in the deciding ODI when Sri Lankan batsmen were going strong. His faith in the spinners - Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav - was repaid when the duo gave their skipper the desired results as they tightened the noose around Lankan batsmen.

Eventually, Sri Lanka, who at one stage looked headed for a total par 350, were restricted to a paltry 215. Chasing a below par total, India overhauled it within 40 overs for the loss of two wickets.

It was after his first series win as captain when Rohit took to his Twitter handle on Monday and reminisced his feelings.

"A day that I will remember for the rest of my life. Walking out with the team sheet for the 1st time was a feeling of its own which can never be measured or compared with anything. Proud to be playing with the guys who have such great skill set & work ethic. Cannot be more happier", he tweeted.

Rohit became Team India's 24th ODI skipper after regular skipper Virat Kohli took a break to attend his wedding.

Rohit will now be leading the Indian team in a three-match T20I series against the same side and would be hoping to finish the year on a high.
