RR vs DC: Star-studded audition of wicketkeeper-batters for T20 World Cup 2024 as Rajasthan take on Delhi

RR vs DC: Match number nine of IPL 2024 between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will witness a three-way audition for a wicketkeeper-batter's spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, at the Sawai Manasingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, March 28.

The likes of Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel will be in action in a star-studded affair, and despite the IPL 2024 being in its initial stage, the three players will be looking to catch the eyeballs of the selectors.

Rishabh Pant has returned to action following a 14-month injury layoff. The southpaw was involved in a near-fatal car crash in December 2022, and he scored 18 off 13 balls in Delhi Capitals' first match of the season against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the new PCA stadium in Mullanpur.

The 26-year-old might have gone down the pecking order due to his prolonged absence, there is no denying that a sensational IPL 2024 campaign will tempt the selectors to pick the proven match-winner in India's T20I World Cup 2024 squad.

The Delhi Capitals captain recently admitted that he was eyeing to regain fitness before the home World Cup last year. Now that he is back in action, the Delhi batter would be looking to give his best shot for a place in that squad which will travel to the USA and West Indies after the IPL 2024.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson stood up to the expectations and blasted match-winning 82 unbeaten runs off 52 balls to help his team beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 20 runs.

Samson has now scored a fifty in each of his last five opening games of the IPL. However, the extremely talented wicketkeeper-batter from Kerala has been found guilty of not capitalising on his stellar starts to IPL campaigns.

The 29-year-old would be aiming to break the jinx, and create an opportunity to play a World Cup match for India for the first time in his career. Ishan Kishan has been dropped from BCCI's central contracts list amid all kinds of negative publicities, and there is a solid chance for Samson to capitalise on the opportunity and emerge as India's first-choice wicketkeeper-batter for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Further, Dhruv Jurel also has the chance to creep in and make the right noise once again. Jurel will have the chance to go big in the presence of the two superstar glovesmen.

The 23-year-old became a household name after his cracking debut in the Test series against England. His excellent keeping skills, temperament, and strokeplay was on display as KS Bharat faded in the background.

Having already secured his place in the future Test squads, the greats of the game have predicted the 23-year-old from Uttar Pradesh to break into India's white-ball squad.
