Sachin Tendulkar registers complaint with Mumbai Police after his name used illegally

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has registered a complaint with Mumbai Police for the use of his name, voice and pictures to dupe several people.

As per reports, the legendary cricketer - who is a Bharat Ratna awardee - lodged a complaint with the West Region Cyber Police Station in this regard on Thursday (May 11) after his name was used by a website to promote medicinal products.

According to the person who registered the complaint on behalf of Tendulkar, an online drug company was doing advertisements using Sachin's name while the former Indian opener does not endorse the product.

Sachin Tendulkar Lodges FIR in Mumbai

According to a PTI report, a website titled sachinhealth.in promoted many products using Master Blaster's image. The 50-year-old - who happens to be one of the richest cricketers in the world despite retiring from the game a decade back - never approved his name of the same.

It, therefore, led to his name and images being used illegally and one of his aides registered a complaint in Mumbai against the unidentified persons running the website.

"At SRT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd. (SRTSM), we have noticed that there have been attempts to impersonate Mr Sachin Tendulkar's attributes in an unauthorized manner, for selling products and services not associated with him. These are being done with a deliberate and malicious intention of misleading gullible citizens to buy unauthorised products and services online," SRTSM said in a statement.

"We have lodged an official complaint with the Cyber Cell department and have highlighted these to social media platforms where such misleading advertisements are being broadcast," the statement read.

An FIR has been registered regarding the same, against unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery) and 500 (defamation) besides the Information Technology Act, the official said, adding that further investigation was on.

Sachin was spotted in the Mumbai Indians dressing room during the IPL 2023 match between MI and Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday (May 12). The batting legend was in awe of MI batter Suryakumar Yadav's shots in the match as he helped MI win the game by 27 runs.
