Shahid Afridi gives massive statement on Gautam Gambhir after latter's appointment as India coach

By MyKhel Staff

In the storied rivalry of India and Pakistan over the years, only a few may have been as bitter as the one between Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi.

During their playing days, the duo got involved in a brutal altercation in an ODI match in 2007. Although cricket lovers may remember that exchange on the field, things tend to be much cooler off it, especially these days.

Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi remains a prominent face in Pakistan cricket. But his cricketing nemesis Gautam Gambhir has reached a new pinnacle as he has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.

It is going to be a huge responsibility for Gambhir, who will take the throne from Rahul Dravid. The former India player is set to take charge of the team from the upcoming Sri Lanka series, starting from July 26.

As Gambhir takes the new role, Afridi praised the Indian player and feels it is a huge opportunity for him. The Pakistan legend also admired the straightforwardness of Gambhir and said it is to be seen how he thrives.

"I think it's a big opportunity, and we need to see how he makes the most of it. I have seen his interviews, and he talks positively and is very straightforward," Afridi was quoted by The Indian Express.

Afridi is currently taking part in the World Championship of Legends tournament which is being held in England. Pakistan and India both have qualified for the semifinals. Indian legends like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan have taken part in the tournament.
