Eyewitness account claim that it was none other than Bangladesh skipper Shakib al Hasan who pulled the dressing room door with such a force that it broke.

Colombo, March 20: The recently concluded Nidahas Trophy 2018 saw a bitter on-field rivalry between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket teams after that infamous on-field tiff between the two teams in the virtual semi-final match.

Players from both the teams were at loggerheads during the final over of the match between the two teams, which Bangladesh managed to win. Mahmudullah Riyad was a star of Bangladesh's innings as he maintained his calm by pulling off a sensational run chase for his side.

But dramatic scenes were witnessed when the players from both the teams tried to mock each other as the match was evenly poised in the penultimate over and it could have gone either way.

During the final over of the game, a visibly livid Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan asked his teammates to walk over as the on-field umpire didn't signal a 'No Ball'. Thanks to the composure showed by Mahmudullah who stayed in the field and scored those winning runs for his team.

But the on-field controversy didn't die down after the match as some angry Bangladeshi cricketer was reported to have broken down the glass door in the dressing room. This incident brought huge embarrassment to the Tigers who were criticised from all quarters for their arrogance and tarnishing the spirit of the gentlemen's game.

Reports now claim that the CCTV footage in the dressing room remained inconclusive as to who caused the damage. However, reports in Sri Lanka suggest Match Referee Chris Broad spoke to the caterers in the dressing room to find out the guilty person. The caterers have reportedly informed Broad that Shakib was behind the destruction.

The match referee was informed by an eyewitness that the Bangladeshi captain had forcefully pushed the door causing the damage.

Shakib had already suffered a 25% reduction of the match fee and accumulated one demerit point for his on-field behaviour along with his teammate Nurul Hasan, who was carrying drinks for the batsmen, as he too indulged into a verbal spat with Lankan skipper Thisara Perera.

Nurul was also fined 25 percent of his match fee and awarded one demerit point.

Broad in his ruling said, "I understand that it was... tense and an edge-of-the-seat match with (a) place in the final on the line, but the actions of the two players were unacceptable and cannot be condoned as they clearly went overboard. Had the fourth umpire not stopped Shakib and the fielders remonstrating, and then the on-field umpires not intervened between Nurul and Thisara, things could have become worse."
